Earlier it was not allowed by Google to make your ads sticky as they were a violation of their policies protecting ads from getting clicked accidentally and not with user interest. They claimed that this lead to decreased user experience and lowered value to advertisers. But now they have come up with “Google anchor ads on wider screens” to make ads stick to the sides of your screen.
From now, publishers will be able to monetize their blogs with this new feature Google AdSense is introducing from 19 July 2021 onwards. They announced this on 5 July 2021. I guess they sent an email to me declaring the same. I am waiting for it and hoping it to increase some of my revenue created with my blog and tools (free online web development tools).

It will be a deep relaxation for publishers who likes to show their advertisements to users fixed to their screen all the time. Fixed ads catch more user attention than non-fixed ones as they keep staying on the screen even when users scroll down the page. Fixed/anchor ads also get more clicks and hence increases click-through rate that provides more value to advertisers also.
Earlier Anchor ads were only allowed on mobile/tablet screens and that too with Google Auto ads only. If you open my website https://webdevpuneet.com/ on mobile you will observe the anchor ad stuck to the top of the mobile screen that is easy to close if you want. (screenshot below)
Here is the announcement:
Show anchor ads on wider screens
Anchor ads now support a larger range of screen sizes. For sites that have anchors turned on, anchor ads will soon start to appear on wider screens such as desktop. Our experiments show that anchor ads perform well on wider screens.
If you’d prefer not to show anchors on wider screens, you can turn this option off using the new ‘Wide screen’ control in your Auto ads settings. Note that wide-screen anchors won’t start serving until after 19 July 2021.
To see how anchors perform on your sites, set up Auto ads and turn on anchor ads.

Wide-screen anchor ads may also be visible to you at the top or bottom of the screen when you are looking at this post. As it is automated by Google so it may or may not show up on all page visits.
Here are some more screenshots of the settings on the Adsense dashboard:
I hope this will help publishers earn more with their published content and services online.
