Upwork Hourly vs Fixed Price Jobs

Hello guys, firstly I want to tell you that everybody has different opinions and goals and perceptions and the following ideas are just my perspectives of looking at it. I do not want you to blindly believe me but just give a look at these ideas I am sharing below and do it your way after some experiments.

  • Fixed price jobs are mostly budget-focused job whereas hourly jobs are work-focused and often leads to amazing output work at any cost.
  • I have achieved many great results that I am proud of working for my clients in hourly jobs rather than fixed-price where my mind was just focused to complete the work as fast as possible.
  • I feel we get more money-minded in the fixed price and milestone jobs rather than in hourly jobs which lead to not-so-good overall performance and communication with clients.
  • No matter how much a good client is paying a fixed price only feel that it was less as I spend most of my time doing rework due to changes in ideas, redesign, feedback, quality assurance, etc.
  • Fixed price does not grantee good money income like hourly in a short time.
  • Fixed price does not support revision after feedback time it’s just not worth it.
  • Feels like you are selling your time rather than connecting to the project a lot of giving and take thoughts to kick in.
  • Fixed price does not allow great ideas to come in as you are continuously looking towards payment and time spent.
  • Even if the fixed price exceeds hourly in terms of time then also you do not feel great as your mind starts to vibrate out of fake narratives that are not true.

  • Fixed price done for 100$ and 5 days spent is like doing almost a damage to the business than looking for a 100$ through hourly i.e. worth only 4 – 5 hrs max i.e. a single day or a couple of days …
  • In hourly jobs, communication is great unlike fixed where you do not want to give ideas to an employer.
  • Refund in case of hourly is good than in case of fixed-price jobs.
  • Can pitch rate anyway between lower_limit$/hr to higher_limit$/hr if the client is really good and the job is good and client behavior with his previous freelancers is good.
  • You can take fixed price jobs if the deal is really very good from incoming clients but still try to mold him in your directions telling him the idea of revisions any number of revisions if he insists on to block time frame then it’s ok. Time is the key.
  • You do not have to bargain much in the case of hourly.
  • You do not have to calculate the price during proposal submission.
  • In fixed-price client is not priced for time so the client wants to get more and expands time and feedback and also holds milestones, i.e. no payments at the end of the week whereas you always get paid at the end of the week in hourly jobs.
  • I feel much more stress-free to submit for hourly jobs than to submit for fixed-price jobs in Upwork. There can be some psychological aspect behind this
  • I have always felt happier while doing hourly jobs than fixed price as I have to wait for the client to release milestones or close the contract, there is a lot of headaches behind and you just feel like you are some kind of a commodity seller so lots of sales stuff goes on with fixed price/milestone based jobs.
  • After solo freelancing for more than 3 years now, I feel hourly is good for solo freelancers and milestone is great for agencies or freelancers who are working for some kind of agency/company that is managing all sales side of deals.
